How Marketing and Influencers Shape Trends

Marketing and Influencers have a huge impact on society.  So much so that Chicago Tribune states department companies are calling themselves “Media Companies” because they see themselves more as marketing companies not just clothing companies per se. “Buy Now: The Shopping Conspiracy” is a Netflix Documentary that goes in depth of how companies prioritize mass marketing and profits. The documentary, Adidas former president, Eric Liedtke, talks about how no one needs excessive amounts of clothing, but we buy anyway, and that’s exactly  what the companies want. Another Documentary, Brandy Helvilt and the Cult of Fast Fashion, talks about the psychological effects companies and influencers have on people, especially teenage girls. The documentary emphasizes how girls will go to extreme measurements to be skinny, or look like other girls. This isn’t healthy and It is exhausting keeping up with an industry that constantly reinvents what it means to be “on trend.”
